I mean, the king of fruits, of course ........ THE MANGO!
Yum, yum, yum! After 8 months of waiting, the king has finally arrived - and thankfully the prices this year are down due to lower exports and so we can enjoy mangoes earlier.
For those unfamiliar with this fruit, it is widely available in the tropical countries and distributed worldwide. It has a lovely sunshine colour, is fleshy and absolutely delicious!
One of the most famous varieties of mangoes is the "Alphonso." This is the one which is exported from India. Due to the high export demand in most years, the price of Alphonsos in Mumbai is always quite high and it is considered quite an expensive fruit.
And regarding the long wait - well, mangoes are only available in the summer months and so we get to eat them for only 3-4 months a year. But the wait is well worth it! I will be gorging on this fruit for the next 3 months everyday - so that I can have my fill before the season is gone.
In addition to being delicious, the mango is also one of the most nutritious fruits. So gorging on it has several health benefits too - as follows:
Below is a photo of the skin of mango which I peeled in the shape of an octopus to entertain my nephew :D

Aren't they awesome? We're enjoying priyurs, malgovas, neelams and muvandans - all from our own trees - in Kerala and pickling the raw ones. Long may it last! How did you manage to peel them like that??
ReplyDeleteMy international giveaway
I just peeled off in section without reaching the end and then pulled off the whole skin to get the octopus :)
DeleteI love the pickles made from raw ones too!
