Outfit of the Day - Indo western

Top post on IndiBlogger.in, the community of Indian Bloggers

The dress in this post is my favorite! It has featured on the blog multiple times and I always look for new ways to wear it :-)

This time I added a traditional jacket to the dress which adds a lot of color! And I paired it with golden accessories - long golden earrings, gold bangles and gold heels.

So what do you think? Is this a good tie up between traditional Indian and western wear?

Dress - Forever 21
Earrings - Forever 21

#Together with my best friend

Many say that the sort of friends you make in childhood, you never make again. And I agree with that. That is not to say that we cannot make amazing friends after we have grown up; but just that there is a special bond with friends you make in your childhood :-)

We are so innocent as children, and our friendships are just as innocent then. And if you continue to be in touch with your childhood friends (which in itself is a big deal), some of that innocence remains in that friendship. And that's what makes childhood friendships very special to me.

I met my best friend (Seema) when we were in Standard 4. Gradually we became friends, had some great times and were best friends by the time we passed out of school. We joined the same college after school and had 5 more years of fun :-) After college, we continued to be in touch, but both were busy with our respective pursuits. I was studying for my B-school entrance exams and she was studying for CPA.

A side note here - She and I had made plans of how I would run away and where I would hide if my mom forced me to get married before I could do my MBA ;-) That's what best friends do, don't they? :-D Just like with this, in every other problem that I faced, she was always there - to give advice, to help out or to just listen.

#StartANewLife

I have been born and brought up in Mumbai - in a suburb called Ghatkopar. I did my schooling and also attended college in Ghatkopar. During vacations, my parents took my brother and me around India, but the rest of my time was all spent in Ghatkopar. I was so comfortable and used to this place, that I chose a college in Ghatkopar so that I wouldn't have to travel anywhere outside. By the number of times I have used Ghatkopar in this para, you can understand how attached I was to my place of birth :-D

After college, I wanted to do MBA. Even there, except for the IIMs (the best B-schools in India), I was only looking at B-schools in Mumbai. I was so sheltered and protected that I did not want to explore outside. And then came the blow - my mom wanted me to get married. Suddenly the shelter was smothering me and I had to get out! So I applied to B-schools all across the country and got into one of the best ones in Gurgaon. I was so happy when I got the letter telling me I had been selected. My parents were so proud and my mom gave up on those marriage plans :-)

But once the news had sunk in, I was scared. It started penetrating my mind that I would be living alone for the next 2 years. No parents, no friends, no familiar surroundings.

Colour in formals - a lot of pink!

Today's outfit is simple but quite colorful. I paired a deep pink turtle neck with brown trousers and a pink purse which has a print of painted flowers. Added a brown necklace which has a very interesting pendant. The pendant is a brown stone with a picture of a lady. This pic reminds me of my mom and so I bought this necklace :-)

So what do you think? Is the outfit still formal? Do you like it?

Turtle neck - Zara,
Trousers - GAP
Purse - local exhibition in Ghatkopar
Necklace - local shop in Ghatkopar
Shoes - Mintdrop (bought in Japan)

For the love of Soap!

Most of you don't know it, but a big passion of mine, other than clothes that is, is soaps. Yes, you read that right .. I said soaps! :-D

I was introduced to the world of organic and natural soaps by a fellow blogger. After reading reviews of some organic soaps and doing more research online, I decided to give it a try. And there was no looking back after that :-)

That was 2 years ago.Today, hubby and I do not use any commercial soaps. Not that all the soaps are totally natural, but they are free of many harmful chemicals found in commercial soaps - particularly SLS.

So without much ado, here are my soaps ;-)
